Portovenere is one of the most romantic harbours on the Ligurian coast, a maritime
village of outstanding beauty between Cinque Terre and the Gulf of the Poets where
its tall multi-colured houses are reflected in the clear waters of the Mediterranean
Sea.
The Port of Carrugio, the fresco depicts "Madonna Bianca", patroness of the town
celebrated with a torchlight procession on the night of August 17, the small square
with the fountain, the wonderful church of St. Pietro on the promontory made up
of white and black rocks, from where the poet Byron dove, the tall spire of the
church of St. Lawrence and its valuable works of art and the imposing seventeenth-century
castle Andrea Doria, are just some of the spectacles to enjoy.
The climate is mild, so the long season means Potovenere is a destination to
